Carlisle United 2-3 Morecambe

TWO goals from Shaun Miller helped the Shrimps to an excellent victory at Brunton Park.

The former Crewe man took his tally to four in the week with a fine performance as the Shrimps came from behind to clinch victory.

Carlisle took the lead in the 23rd minute. Left back Danny Grainger received the ball on the left hand side of the Morecambe area and tried his luck with a right footed effort which curled past Barry Roche and ended up in the bottom let hand corner of the Shrimps' goal.

The home side almost added a second six minutes later when Jason Kennedy nipped in between defender and goalkeeper to lob the ball goalwards only to see his effort superbly cleared off the line by Ryan Edwards.

It proved to be a pivotal moment of the half as Morecambe levelled on 34 minutes. Carlisle defender Macauley Gillesphey played a careless ball out of defence and Shaun Milller took full advantage of the gift with a superb strike from the edge of the area that beat Mark Gillespie low to his right.

Carlisle had the best chance to take the lead again when Derek Asamoah latched on to Alex Kenyon's poor back pass but stumbled as he was about to shoot and Roche was able to save well with this feet.

The half ended with the Shrimps being denied a penalty when Miller's shot looked to have been handled by former Accrington Captain Luke Joyce but the referee waved the appeals away.

The Shrimps started the second half on top and took the lead just after the hour when Jamie Devitt played in Tom Barkhuizen superbly after great work from Kevin Ellison and the former Blackpool man made no mistake with a fine finish past Gillespie.

The pressure continued with Miller putting the Shrimps 3-1 up with a close range finish on 72 minutes. Devitt was again the supplier with a chip to the far post with Miller nipping in ahead of his marker to slot the ball home.

Miller was denied a hat-trick by a superb Gillespie save and the home keeper also saved smartly from Barkhuizen as the Shrimps threatened to run riot.

Carlisle hit back with Jason Kennedy hitting the crossbar for the second time in the game with a looping header and there was a brief moment of panic when Derek Asamoah volleyed smartly past Barry Roche from the edge of the area but the home side were kept at bay and the Shrimps sealed the three points.
